The German Ambassador Dr. Michael Forbes (Ambassador of Germany in the State of Kuwait) and the Chancellor Mrs. Beatrix Kathia (Deputy Ambassador) both discussed the methods of cooperation between the German government agencies working in the field of the environment (such as the German Agency for Technical Cooperation, GTZ) and Kuwait Environmental Monitoring Center (KEMC) at the Environment Public Authority (EPA). This discussion took place during their visit to KEMC at EPA to learn about the project “Environmental Monitoring Information System of Kuwait, eMISK”.
The German Ambassador and Chancellor Beatrix both met with Mr. Muhammad Al-Ahmad (Head of the KEMC at EPA), where he in turn presented the idea behind establishing KEMC, its importance and the purpose of its establishment. Al-Ahmad then put key points during the meeting about the ways that German support can be provided to KEMC. He summarized these key points as follows:
- Technical support in the field of the environment and environmental information systems.
- Human support by sending experts from the German Ministry of the Environment as advisers to the center.
- Material support in terms of cooperation with some software companies that are helping in the implementation of the database and assisting in the development of Kuwait's environmental portal.
The German ambassador lauded the Center's activities and the idea behind establishing KEMC, as well as its goals and the persistent effort by the operators of the project, valuing the important role played by the Environment Public Authority in the promotion of the environmental situation in the State of Kuwait. He finally confirmed the harnessing of German experience in the field of the environment to support environmental work in Kuwait.
